What we do

Yachts.

An afternoon on the water, a fortnight through the islands, or a boat of your own on the dock.

01 — Three ways

Chartered, arranged, or owned.

Chartered. Boats we work with out of Casa de Campo Marina, available at short notice. A day to Catalina, an afternoon's fishing, a sunset run up the Chavón. This is most of what people want and we can usually confirm it the same day.

Arranged. Larger yachts and longer itineraries do not sit waiting in the marina. They are positioned, crewed and provisioned for you, which takes lead time — see below. Multi-island routes through the Virgins, the Bahamas or down the chain are built this way.

Owned. We work with Azimut on sales. If the answer to a good week keeps being “we should just have our own,” that is a conversation worth having here rather than in Fort Lauderdale — for reasons that become obvious the first time you try to import, flag and berth a boat in the Dominican Republic.

02 — A day out of the marina

Most people ask for Catalina.

Marina, boarding
Out past the lighthouse
Anchored off Catalina
Lunch aboard
Up the Chavón
Alongside, before the light goes

Saona is the other answer — further, wilder, a longer day. We will tell you honestly which suits the group you are bringing.

03 — Longer, and larger

The good boats are spoken for early.

A day boat can be found on a Tuesday for a Thursday. A seventy-five-foot yacht with a crew you would want twice, over Christmas week, cannot.

Anything beyond a day charter is positioned for you: the vessel has to be brought to the right island, crewed, provisioned and cleared. That is straightforward when there is time and expensive when there is not.

Day charter
Same day to a few days' notice, outside the peak weeks.
A week aboard
Six to eight weeks is comfortable. less is possible, not cheaper
Christmas & New Year
Booked by the previous spring. If you are reading this in November, ask anyway — but expect us to be honest.
Multi-island
BVI, the Bahamas, the Grenadines. Routing, clearances and crew arranged around your dates.
Sportfishing
A different boat entirely. We will put you on a proper sportfisher rather than pretend a flybridge is one.

04 — Inside

Somewhere to sit when the sun becomes too much.

Most of a day on the water is spent outside. But there is a point, usually around two, when the children have had enough sun and somebody wants to lie down.

Air conditioning that works. A table you can actually eat at. A cabin for a nap. Unromantic, and the thing people remember.

05 — Ownership

We work with Azimut.

Buying the boat is the simple part, and there are a hundred brokers who will help you do it. What follows is where people lose a season: importation and duty, flag and registration, a berth at a marina with a waiting list, a captain and crew you can trust with your family, insurance that holds up locally, and somebody to run the engines while you are in London.

All of that happens here, and so do we. We can look after a boat the same way we look after a house — and for most owners that second part matters considerably more than the purchase.

If you already own, we take on management, crew and berthing independently of where the boat was bought.

A boat is a house that moves. It needs the same people behind it.

06 — Worth knowing

Before you ask.

What it costs
Driven by size, crew, fuel and the length of the day rather than a rate card. Tell us the group and the date and we quote properly, with fuel and crew gratuity shown separately rather than buried.
How many
Comfortable at eight to ten for a day. Beyond twelve you want a second boat, not a bigger one. we will say so
Sea state
The south coast is usually kind in the mornings and firmer after two. We watch the forecast on your behalf and will suggest moving the day rather than let you have a bad one.
Children
Ask about the crew, not the boat. Some are wonderful with small children and some are not. We know which.
How we earn
Commission from the operator on charter, disclosed if you ask. On sales and management we are paid by agreement, in writing, before we begin.

07 — Enquiries

Tell us the dates and the number.

Eight of you in February is enough for us to suggest the right boat rather than the biggest one.
